Federal Urdu University FUUAST GPA, CGPA Calculator & Grading Scale
Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology is a public sector university established on 13 November 2002 through a presidential ordinance by the Government of Pakistan. FUUAST holds the unique distinction of being the first university in Pakistan that aims to use Urdu as its primary language of instruction. The university was formed by merging the Federal Urdu Arts College and Federal Urdu Science College in Karachi, both originally founded in 1949 by Baba-e-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq.
FUUAST operates across three campuses. Two campuses are located in Karachi, the Gulshan Campus on University Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and the Abdul Haq Campus. The third campus is in Islamabad. Together, these campuses serve over 12,000 students with more than 450 faculty members across multiple faculties. The university is recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and is ranked among the top 10 universities in the general category by HEC.
FUUAST follows the GPA and CGPA grading system as recommended by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Use the FUUAST GPA calculator and CGPA calculator below to calculate your semester grade point average or your cumulative grade point average based on the official grading scheme.
How to Calculate FUUAST GPA
Calculating your GPA at Federal Urdu University follows the standard weighted average method used across HEC-recognized universities in Pakistan. You need three pieces of information for each course: the letter grade you earned, the grade point value assigned to that letter grade, and the credit hours of the course.
The formula works like this. Take the grade points for each course and multiply them by the credit hours of that course. This gives you the quality points for each individual course. Add up all the quality points from every course in the semester. Then divide that total by the sum of all credit hours attempted during the semester. The number you get is your semester GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Here is a practical example. Suppose you took four courses in a semester. You earned an A in a 3 credit hour Urdu Literature course, a B+ in a 3 credit hour Computer Science course, a B in a 3 credit hour Economics course, and a C+ in a 2 credit hour Islamiyat course. Your quality points would be 12.00, 9.99, 9.00, and 4.66 respectively. Adding those up gives you 35.65 total quality points. Dividing by 11 total credit hours gives you a semester GPA of 3.24.
You do not have to calculate all of this by hand. Just enter your course names, credit hours, and grades into the FUUAST GPA calculator above and it will give you the result instantly.
How to Calculate FUUAST CGPA
Your CGPA at Federal Urdu University represents your academic performance across every semester you have completed so far. Unlike the semester GPA that only covers one semester, the CGPA gives a complete picture of your overall standing from the first semester to the most recent one.
The calculation method is similar to the GPA formula but at a higher level. Multiply each semester GPA by the total credit hours attempted in that particular semester. Add up all those products across every completed semester. Then divide by the total number of credit hours attempted throughout your entire degree program. The result is your cumulative grade point average.
For students enrolled in four-year BS programs at FUUAST, the CGPA is built across eight semesters. Students in two-year Master programs calculate their CGPA over four semesters. Your CGPA is what appears on your official university transcript and is the number that employers, scholarship committees, and admissions offices at other universities will look at when evaluating your academic record.
The FUUAST CGPA calculator above allows you to add as many semesters as needed and computes your cumulative GPA in seconds.
FUUAST Grading Scale Explained
Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology uses an 11-tier letter grade system on a 4.0 scale. This grading scheme is aligned with the standard recommended by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, making FUUAST grades comparable with other HEC-recognized universities across the country.
The highest grade is A, awarded to students who score 85 percent or above, carrying 4.00 grade points. The A- grade covers the 80 to 84 percent range with 3.67 grade points. B+ is assigned for marks between 75 and 79 percent at 3.33 grade points. A straight B grade falls in the 71 to 74 percent range with 3.00 grade points, and B- covers 68 to 70 percent with 2.67 grade points.
In the middle of the scale, C+ applies to scores between 64 and 67 percent at 2.33 grade points. The C grade ranges from 60 to 63 percent with 2.00 grade points. C- covers 57 to 59 percent at 1.67 grade points. D+ falls between 53 and 56 percent at 1.33 grade points, and a D grade is given for scores of 50 to 52 percent carrying 1.00 grade point. Anything below 50 percent is graded as F with zero grade points, which means the course has not been passed.
The minimum passing grade for most undergraduate programs at FUUAST is D, requiring at least 50 percent marks. Postgraduate programs may have higher minimum requirements depending on the department and the specific program regulations.
Quality Points and Credit Hours at FUUAST
Quality points are the foundation of how Federal Urdu University calculates your academic performance. Every course you take generates quality points based on two factors: the grade points you earn and the credit hours assigned to the course. To get the quality points for a single course, you simply multiply the grade points by the credit hours.
For instance, in a standard 3 credit hour course, an A grade (4.00 grade points) produces 12.00 quality points. A B+ in the same course gives you 9.99 quality points. A C grade yields 6.00 quality points. The more credit hours a course carries, the bigger its impact on your semester GPA.
Most courses at FUUAST are assigned 3 credit hours, though some laboratory-based courses, project courses, and electives may carry 2 or 4 credit hours depending on the program. A four-year BS degree at FUUAST typically requires between 130 and 136 credit hours. Master-level programs generally require 30 to 36 credit hours. Students in MPhil and PhD programs have their credit hour requirements defined by their respective departments.
The practical takeaway here is that scoring well in courses with higher credit hours matters more for your GPA. If you have a heavy 4 credit hour course, the grade you earn there will influence your GPA more than a 2 credit hour elective.
