Programs are accredited by HEC, PEC, NCEAC, PM&DC, and CPSP.
FUI GPA Calculator
The GPA calculator above uses the official Foundation University grading scale sourced from the FUI Grading Model and Student Handbook 2025-2026. FUI follows the HEC-standard 4.0 GPA scale with absolute grading. Students of the Faculty of Medical & Allied Medical Sciences (FM&AMS) are governed by separate PM&DC rules for examinations and grading, while students of the Faculty of Engineering, Sciences & Technology (FES&T) and Faculty of Computing, Engineering & Management Sciences (FCE&MS) follow the standard FUI grading model.
To calculate your semester GPA at Foundation University, select the letter grade for each course and enter the credit hours. The calculator applies the same weighted average formula used by the FUI Examination Branch.
FUI CGPA Calculator
The CGPA calculator computes your cumulative grade point average across all semesters at Foundation University. Your CGPA determines academic standing, graduation eligibility, and medal/certificate awards. The minimum CGPA for graduation is 2.00 for all undergraduate programs and 2.50 for MBA programs. A separate transcript is issued showing letter grades for each course along with SGPA and CGPA.
Foundation University Grading System
Foundation University uses the HEC-standard 11-grade absolute grading scale on the 4.00 GPA system. The percentage thresholds and grade point values follow HEC guidelines.

Special Grades at Foundation University
| Notation | Meaning | GPA Impact |
|---|---|---|
| I | Incomplete. Awarded when student cannot complete course requirements within prescribed time due to circumstances beyond their control, with only a minor component outstanding. | Excluded from GPA until resolved. Must be completed at the start of the next semester. Failure to complete converts I to F automatically. |
| W | Withdrawn. Awarded for course withdrawal within the permitted period. | Not counted in GPA. Appears on transcript. |
I grade deadline: The outstanding course requirements must be completed at the beginning of the next semester. Students are responsible for making arrangements with their instructors. Failing this, the I grade automatically converts to F. The GPA is recalculated once the I grade is replaced with a regular grade.
How to Calculate GPA at Foundation University
SGPA = Total Quality Points Earned in the Semester ÷ Total Credit Hours of the Semester
Quality points for each course are calculated by multiplying the grade point value by the credit hours. I and W grades are excluded from GPA calculation.
GPA Calculation Example
| Course | Credit Hours | Grade | Grade Points | Quality Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Introduction to Computing | 3 | A- | 3.67 | 11.01 |
| Calculus I | 3 | B+ | 3.33 | 9.99 |
| English Composition | 3 | A | 4.00 | 12.00 |
| Applied Physics | 3 | B | 3.00 | 9.00 |
| Islamic Studies | 2 | B- | 2.67 | 5.34 |
Total quality points: 11.01 + 9.99 + 12.00 + 9.00 + 5.34 = 47.34
Total credit hours: 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 2 = 14
SGPA: 47.34 ÷ 14 = 3.38
How to Calculate CGPA at Foundation University
CGPA = Total Quality Points from All Semesters ÷ Total Credit Hours from All Semesters
CGPA Calculation Example
| Semester | Credit Hours | Total Quality Points | SGPA |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semester 1 | 14 | 47.34 | 3.38 |
| Semester 2 | 16 | 51.20 | 3.20 |
| Semester 3 | 15 | 46.50 | 3.10 |
CGPA: (47.34 + 51.20 + 46.50) ÷ (14 + 16 + 15) = 145.04 ÷ 45 = 3.22
CGPA to Percentage Conversion
Percentage = (CGPA ÷ 4.0) × 100
A CGPA of 3.22 converts to 80.5%.
Academic Standing and Probation at Foundation University
Foundation University uses a CGPA-based probation system with different rules for 4-year and 2-year programs.
| Program Type | Min CGPA for Good Standing | Min CGPA for Graduation | Ceased After |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4-year BS programs | 2.00 | 2.00 | 3rd consecutive probation |
| 2-year Master's programs | 2.00 | 2.00 | 2nd consecutive probation |
| MBA programs | 2.50 | 2.50 | 2nd consecutive probation |
Probation: A student is placed on probation if their CGPA falls below 2.00 (or below 2.50 for MBA programs) at the end of any semester.
Ceased status: In 4-year programs, a student who earns a third consecutive probation is declared a "ceased student" of the university. In 2-year programs, a second consecutive probation leads to ceased status. FUI uses the term "ceased" rather than "dismissed" or "expelled." A ceased student's academic relationship with the university is permanently ended.
MBA higher threshold: MBA students face a stricter standard — they need 2.50 CGPA for both good standing and graduation, compared to the 2.00 required for all other programs.
